If you’ve ever bought a blaster, hanger, or hobby box of sports cards, you’ve probably felt it:

And then — mostly base cards. A patch card of a backup tight end. Maybe a rookie... if you’re lucky.
For many collectors — especially kids or newcomers — it can be a huge letdown.
Why It Happens
The major card manufacturers (Panini, Topps, Upper Deck) design their boxes like lottery tickets:
- 1–2 “chase hits” per case
- Dozens of boxes per case
- Meaning most people walk away with little to no value
They fill the rest of the boxes with base cards, duplicates, and low-end inserts — not because they have to, but because that’s how the model works. A few get the monster pull. The rest? Just hope the cards look cool.
Even themed products like advent calendars and Easter eggs from these brands are often packed with filler content — fun to open, but not meaningful for collectors.
And Then There’s the Mystery Pack Market…
Mystery packs should have solved this.
Unfortunately, most of them follow the same pattern: random bulk, maybe a single “hit,” and zero quality control.
